Issue 1 post 1: Star Wars Battlefront 2 review
Star Wars Battlefront 2 does things which view games have done, it blends incredible space combat, thundering vehicle combat, frenzied infantry battles and the lightsaber action that Star Wars fans have come to love into one attractive package.
Gameplay:
As far as the gameplay elements go, all new features have been executed very well, jedi are smooth and easy to control and although space combat can be a little irritating due to the nessecity of being a bomber in conquest it is still a riot. One dissapointment for me was the idiotic friendly AI, they may carry out there own tasks well but the only thing you can tell them to do is follow you or get into your vehicle, but at least they follow you pretty well. As far as space combat goes, the goal is to destroy key elements of the enemy's ship, such as life support, bridge, engines, etc. to gain points, when you hit the point cap you win, unfortunately killing a fighter grants you a pitifully small amount of points so it is almost inpossible to win without playing in a bomber. the jedi are awsome though, they have excellent force abilities such as Lightning, choke and saber throw, all the powers work well and they are a riot to use. As far as the good ol' rough and tmble gournd battles of the originals, they are back in full force with new units such as the republic commando or the Bothan spy. Gameplay rating 9.8/10
graphics
Unfortunately, due to the massive action displayed on the screen, the graphics pale in comparison with some games on the market today, this doesnt mean they are bad, just not blow you away amazing. The textures are crisp and clean, and luckily they are quite detailed. The characters are much better than the first but dont match up to some of the titles we are seeing released on the consoles. As far a framerate issues I havent noticed any at all.
Graphics rating: 8.5/10
Sound
Sound has always been a staple of the star wars games, and SWBFII is no exception, the game features many more voices than the first and the intens music will cause your palms to sweat as much as that TIE on your tail. My only complaint is the ridiculous music played in mos eisley in the heroes versus villians mode, it is the rediculous song from Jabba's sail barge, sung by a strange alien.
Sound rating 9.9/10
Overall rating: 9.5/10, Fantastic
The good: Hearing the chears of your team mates over the xbox live headset as you take the enemy's lasr command post.
The Bad: Thinking youve escaped darth vader only to hear is creepy breathing.
the Ugly: Wathcing an idiot A.I. crash your transport into the wall of the enemy ship, moments after you park.
